advancing Equality and Fairness through Education, Leadership & Awareness since 2002 - offering tools and programming, like our 4th annual ELEVATE- a day of being Nicer;
LGBT Scholarships for the Arts, Design, Education & Cosmetology; 4th annual TRANSART series – showcasing Transgender art & artists; the 8th annual Celebrate ORGULLO
Hispanic Pride festival, and various other workshops, services & empowerment for the community.

Harvey Milk (May 22, 1930 – November 27, 1978) was an American politician and the first openly gay elected official in
the history of California, where he was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.





Gilbert Baker (June 2, 1951 – March 31, 2017) was an American artist, gay rights activist, and designer of the rainbow
flag (1978).





Cleve Jones (October 11, 1954 - ) is an American AIDS and LGBT rights activist.[1] He conceived the NAMES Project
AIDS Memorial Quilt which has become, at 54 tons, the world's largest piece of community folk art as of 2016. In 1983,
at the onset of the AIDS pandemic. Jones co-founded the San Francisco AIDS Foundation





Pedro Pablo Zamora (February 29, 1972 – November 11, 1994) was a Cuban-American AIDS educator and television
personality. As one of the first openly gay men with AIDS to be portrayed in popular media,[3] Zamora brought
international attention to HIV/AIDS and LGBT issues and prejudices through his appearance on MTV's reality
television series, The Real World: San Francisco.




Sylvia Ray Rivera (July 2, 1951 – February 19, 2002) Marsha P. Johnson (August 24, 1945 – July 6, 1992) American
gay liberation and transgender activists and self-identified drag queens, and prominent figures in the vanguard of the
Stonewall uprising in 1969. Co-founded the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR), a group dedicated to
helping homeless young drag queens and trans women of color.




Ruby Corado (June 9, 1970 - ) Activist born in El Salvador who founded Casa Ruby, the only bilingual, multicultural
LGBT organization in Washington, D.C. Casa Ruby opened in 2012; it identifies its mission as "to create success life
stories among Transgender, Gender Queer, and Gender Non-conforming Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual people.



Stormé DeLarverie (December 24, 1920 – May 24, 2014) Was a butch lesbian whose scuffle with police, according to
Storme herself and many eyewitnesses, was the defining moment that incited the Stonewall riots, spurring the crowd
to action. "It was a rebellion, it was an uprising, it was a civil rights disobedience--it wasn't no damn riot." She was
born in New Orleans, to an African American mother and a white father.


Frederick "Freddie" Mercury (September 1946 – 24 November 1991) was a British singer, songwriter and record
producer & lead vocalist of the rock band Queen. Mercury wrote numerous hits for Queen, including "Bohemian
Rhapsody", "Killer Queen", "Somebody to Love", "Don't Stop Me Now", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", and "We Are
the Champions".



Bayard Rustin (March 17, 1912 – August 24, 1987) An American leader in social movements for civil rights, socialism,
nonviolence, and gay rights, and was a close confidant & organizer for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.



Bob Kunst (1941 - ) Leading human rights and civil rights activists for African-Americans, Women, people with AIDS,
LGBT people, especially in the 1976 Miami-Dade County Ordinance for Gay Rights which was passed to protect the
civil rights of Lesbians and Gays, and Bisexuals, challenging Anita Bryant & her crusade against gays.



Ellen Lee DeGeneres (January 26, 1958 - ) American comedian, television host, actress, writer, producer, and LGBT
activist.
Multiple workshops & activities await you at ELEVATE on Sunday, MAY 6, 2018, 10am-4pm.
Activities are presented throughout the indoor & outdoor classrooms of the Miami Beach Botanical Garden campus.

you get to take your masterpiece home with you!   

-        DANCING WITH THE SUN with XILEF DECASTRO | Fun, Fluidity and fierceness, using Dance and your Body to stimulate

-        ART & ARCHITECTURE in the GARDEN with HAVI SCHANZ | Create amazing art, combining various schools of design &

A Community Workshop & discussion with local leaders, debating the pros and cons of dating apps., and offering tools on how else

-        SING, SING, SING! | Channel your inner Beyonce, with the guidance of the Miami Gay Men's Chorus artistic director ANTHONY
CABRERA - get professional tips for better singing - and be a part of the chorus for the day...ALL are welcome - come have fun!

-        MAKING FRAGRANCES with MARCO BERIA | Create fragrances for yourself...Workshop on making perfumes. Choose your
scent, create your own, learn the secrets of professionals, and take your custom made perfume home.
-        The GAY VISTA SOCIAL CLUB Clubhouse | Come join in on the fun, friendship & games – social icebreakers!
