PROGRAMMING for 2015

According the U.S. Census, over .03% of our Miami-Dade County residents identify as TRANSGENDER, with hundreds arriving each day via the Caribbean & Latin
America – often undocumented – making this number much higher.

The law, protections and community services are all but non-existent for the Transgender community.

In our ongoing efforts to empower, support & educate all on issues of importance in the Transgender community, UNITY COALITION|COALICION UNIDA, the First & Only
organization for the So. Fla. Latino|Hispanic|LGBTQ Community, is proud to present our 2015 programming schedule.

Our year-long project provides much needed guidance, learning tools & services to assist this underserved and often overlooked segment of our community…Resulting
in a better understanding of the Trans community, better trained & prepared individuals, employment opportunities & overall support.

TRANSGENDER | The state of one's gender identity (self-identification as woman, man, neither or both) not matching one's assigned sex (identification by others as male,
female or intersex based on physical/genetic sex). Transgender is independent of sexual orientation; transgender people may identify as heterosexual, homosexu
al,
bisexual, pansexual, polysexual, or asexual; some may consider conventional sexual orientation labels inadequate or inapplicable to them.

“I am thrilled to be partnering with Unity Coalition|Coalición Unida (UC|CU) for such an important community resource – providing the Trans Community with vital
resources, education and support. As a board member of UC|CU, I know the work, education & leadership we have been providing since 2002, and as founder & director
of TransMiami, I also know first-hand, the needs within and related to our Trans community. The ongoing support of UC|CU is vital, and I invite our community to unite,
come to our workshops, support groups and resource center, and simply understand, respect & include our Trans brothers & sisters – in our jobs, schools, social circles
and in our lives. We will all be enriched by this!” – Aryah Lester

Momentum grows to scrap Pentagon's ban on transgender troops

There is renewed energy on Capitol Hill to lift the Defense Department's ban on transgender
troops.

Lawmakers view recent steps by the Pentagon and some of the armed services to expand
protections for gay and lesbian troops as an opportunity to do away with the decades-old
prohibition on allowing transgender troops to serve openly.

They are also taking note of other societal changes in calling for the ban on service by transgender
trips to be lifted.
“In politics, I think it’s always appropriate to take advantage of timing. Whether it’s taking down the
Confederate flag or creating equality in the military for transgender persons,” said Rep. Jackie
Speier (D-Calif.).

She plans to introduce legislation next month that calls on the Pentagon to immediately grant anti-
discrimination protection for all service members, and their dependents, who identify as
transgender....

Unity Coalition|Coalición Unida Stands in Solidarity and Grief with our LGBT & Latino|Hispanic communities following Orlando LGBT Nightclub Shooting

Miami, Florida - June 12, 2016… In response to last evening’s shooting which killed an estimated 50 people at Orlando, Florida’s Pulse Nightclub, a popular LGBT
nightspot and weekly Latin night party, Unity Coalition|Coalición Unida sends the most heartfelt support, thoughts and prayers to the many families affected by this
senseless act of violence. As the details are sorted out and the facts emerge in the next hours, days & weeks, we must remain United, Strong and Resilient. Whether last
night’s victims were targeted because they were LGBT, because they were American, Latino or because they were simply all in one common space, the results of this
horrible attack are equally devastating and without explanation or justification.  Our hearts are with the victims, their families and Orlando’s LGBT community. This a
terrible tragedy for LGBT people in Orlando and nationwide, especially as our community celebrates LGBT Pride Month.

If you are trying to identify a family member, here is the city of Orlando’s crisis hotline: 407-246-4357.

Medical officials say there is a need for blood donations to help the shooting victims. O+, AB, and O- are especially needed - make a donation at any Red Bus.

A medida
